Ecosystem Development & Founder Programs

We turn your cohort's ideas into real businesses.

Romel is the commercialisation partner for founder programmes. We give your founders the go-to-market, revenue and investment-readiness that turns a promising cohort into companies with traction, and we give the funders behind you the commercial outcomes they report on.

Afreximbank Flagship Accelerator

Our team serves as faculty on the flagship pan-African accelerator (10 startups backed up to $250K each, from 1,600+ applications); three sessions delivered across the cohort. See the programme

Standard Chartered Foundation Women in Tech

iBizAfrica / Strathmore: structured mentorship across the cohort; a founder we mentored finished Top 7 of the 2026 cohort.

The problem

Most programmes are stronger on selection than on delivery.

You pick great founders, then the hardest part, turning an idea into a business that sells and can raise, is left to general advice and goodwill.

Cohorts get broad theory, not the GTM and fundraising mechanics that move the needle.

Mentors volunteer inconsistently, so support is uneven.

Demo day is high-stakes and under-rehearsed.

Your team is stretched designing curriculum and running operations at once.

And when the funder asks what changed, it's hard to evidence.

The fix isn't more sessions. It's a commercial delivery layer, measured.

Is this you?

Built for programmes that need founders to finish with real traction.

Built for you if

You run a founder or innovation programme in East Africa (a university hub, accelerator, incubator, or a funder-backed cohort) and you need founders to finish with real traction, not just a certificate.

Probably not your fit

If you're a pure networking event, have no cohort, or already run a full in-house commercial-delivery team, we're probably not your fit, and we'll say so.

How we work with you

Three ways in. You choose the depth.

Deliver

We bring the commercial layer into your cohort: GTM & sales clinics, investment-readiness and demo-day prep, founder sessions, all measured with the RBMF. Per-session, per-module, or across the full cohort.

Design & evaluate

We pressure-test and build your programme before we deliver into it: curriculum, sequencing, selection, Lab mechanics, plus a baseline-to-endline impact evaluation your funder can stand behind.

Co-deliver (funded)

The funded model: a development partner, corporate or your programme budget pays, founders get it free, the funder gets attributable outcomes. We can co-develop the funding bid with you and deliver it together once it lands.

The method: the RBMF

The Romel Business Maturity Framework.

Our delivery runs on the Romel Business Maturity Framework: eight pillars, five maturity levels, benchmarked against CMMI, Village Capital's VIRAL and Scaling Up. It carries a built-in readiness gate: we only prepare a founder for investors once they reach Level 3+ on market validation, financial discipline and GTM/sales. That protects founders from premature fundraising and protects your programme's credibility with investors. For your team it's a consistent read on every founder; for your funder it's the evidence instrument, with documented outcomes, separated from self-reported.

Why Romel

We're operators, not lecturers.

The same team that delivers into your cohort runs live commercial engagements (TsogaShop, PrimeTek, HauzPay), so we teach what we actually do. We embed as a firm, not a single face: Melvin Malanga (commercial & GTM), Jesse Karuga (venture readiness; ex-Investment Analyst, Village Capital Women in Tech), Tiffany Karanja (ecosystem). And we pressure-test your programme design before we deliver into it. We don't hand over a deck and leave.

FAQ

Common questions, answered.

Why not just use volunteer mentors?

Volunteers give uneven, unaccountable support. We deliver to a standard and hand you the evidence of what it produced.

Who pays: us or our founders?

The programme or its funder, through funded co-delivery. Founders get specialist support they couldn't otherwise afford, free.

We already have curriculum. Is this still for us?

Yes. Most of our work strengthens or fills the commercial gap in a programme that already exists.

How do you prove it worked?

The RBMF: a baseline at the start and a re-measure at the end, with documented vs self-reported outcomes separated for your funder's report.

Can you help us win the funding?

Yes. We co-develop the bid with you and co-deliver once it's funded.

The Romel Loop

Four disciplines. One compounding system.

Our four services aren't a menu. Each one makes the next work harder, which is why most clients don't stop at one.

Stop handing out certificates. Build businesses.
